Women in Philippine Village Withhold Sex to End Feud

“Echoing the famous “Lysistrata” of Aristophenes, a group of women in Maguindano village of the Philippines withheld sex from their significant others to end a longstanding clan feud, or “rido.”
The women in the area, who had a sewing business, were sick of not being able to transport their work due to the road being closed. The solution? Withhold sex. The sex strike, also known as “tigil pagtatalik,” reopened the village road that had resulted in rationing.
Lengs Kupong, a village leader and an unlucky husband to one of the striking women, warned that couples may separate, but that’s clearly more enticing than the idea of constant feuding between clans.
The Imam Council of the Philippines Chairman Alim Bashar said what they were doing was acceptable, despite Koranic law explaining in detail how a woman should act toward her husband.
The strike lasted a week before results were shown. We wish those poor, poor men all the best.”
